Abstract

In this article, the pragmatic functions of irony in communication and literature are analyzed, its role in enhancing meaning is studied. Each form serves a specific purpose, such as strengthening social ties and criticizing social norms. This article analyzes the various uses of irony and shows how irony can provoke thought, evoke emotion, and facilitate deeper reflection on the finer points of life. Although irony enriches speech, it creates difficulties in interpretation and emphasizes the need for a shared context between speaker and audience. Irony emerges as a vital rhetorical device that reflects the complexity of human expression and interaction.
